May 27th, 2009 - Best Rides for Kids at the Universal Studios Theme Parks
Millions of families head to Orlando each year to visit the theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort. If your family would like to add a bit of variety to your next trip, consider a visit to Universal Studios Florida. There are actually two Universal Studios theme parks, each with something to offer visitors of all ages. Even if you have young children, youll find plenty to keep them busy here.
At Universal Studios, parents should start their visit in the Woody Woodpecker KidZone, an area of the park full of rides and shows for the youngest members of your group. There is the Nuthouse Coaster, where parents can take their children on a gentle roller coaster ride. Nearby is E.T. Adventure, where riders board bicycles and travel with E.T, through the forest. Kids will love the Curious George water play area, with plenty of chances to cool off.
Children of all ages love Universal rides such as Men in Black, an interactive dark ride, and Jaws, a boat ride with an appearance by a giant mechanical shark. Finally, don’t miss Jimmy Neutron’s Nick Toon Blast, featuring Spongebob and other Nick characters, as well as the Shrek 4-D show, based on the popular movie franchise.
After youve finished at the Studios, head next door to Universal Islands of Adventure. This is Universals newest park, and it features some great new attractions. Start at Seuss Landing, based on the books of Dr. Seuss. Theres a whimsical carousel and plenty of kid-friendly rides, as well as a water play area. Children of all ages will also love Jurassic Park. It features a place where kids can dig for fossils or learn more about dinosaurs. Dont miss the River Adventure ride, a water cruise past dozens of animatronic dinosaurs with a big splash at the end.
When the weather gets hot, you’ll love Toon Lagoon, featuring a log flume ride and a truly excellent white rapids boat ride. Younger kids will enjoy playing on Popeye’s ship, a water-based playground with interactive fountains to run through.
Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure may be known for their thrill rides, but families will still find plenty of attractions suitable for kids.
