February 28th, 2009 - Renting a Villa in Spain

Travelling to Spain for a holiday is a sound idea and many people in the UK choose on a regular basis. Another advantage of having a holiday in Spain is quick flying times because of the short distances involved and there are a lot of flight companies have routes between Spain and Britain.

There are lots of reasons as to why hiring a holiday villa in Spain is a goodidea.

If there are a few of you travelling, by renting a large villa you can all be together rather than being on various floors of a hotel or self catering complex. Some villas can hold over twenty people so you can all be together if you want to be.

Many villas have their own swimming pools so you can take a dip whenever you need and also you know it will not be busy with many children and their inflatable toys. The pool is never closed unless you don’t want it to be.

Villas are situated in all sorts of areas, you can stay in a remote property if you want to break loose from everything, near the beach or up in the mountains.

To select the correct property it is importantthat you hunt around as much as possible. Villas differ in quality, interior decoration, position and amenities and of course cost. Look on the different web sites providing villas as well as calling a reliable travel professional to find what they can provide you with.

Don’t forget many accommodations could be quite far from things and having a vehicle can be vital. Make sure you determine who is going to drive if anyone and geta property closer to some local amenities if no one wants to drive. The more people the bigger the automobile needed and the more area you will require for the baggage. If there is lots of you it would be advisable to lease more than one vehicle.

It is your vacation and your vacation time is important so don’t gamble with it look around to confirm the villa you reserve is the right one for you and you friends or family.

February 27th, 2009 - Renting Big Bear Cabins Near Big Bear Lake

When people in other states think of California, they invariably think of Hollywood, or San Francisco. But don’t forget that California is known as the Golden State, not because of the gold in the Hollywood Hills, but because of the real gold found in the mountains…of which California has aplenty.

There are eighteen national forests in California, one of which is the San Bernardino - through which runs the San Bernardino Mountains. And within this national forest is Big Bear Lake - a year-round resort community.

In order to stay at this resort community, one need not stay in a dreary old hotel, but rather in one of dozens upon dozens of cabins of various sizes - from small cabins for the single traveller, to those that have nine rooms, for family parties.

These cabins are available year round - Big Bear Lake is especially popular in winter…it’s so much easier to drive down to southern California than to fly up to Colorado or Utah. The snow is man-made, but it’s well-kept.

In order to find the best cabin for you - whether you want to go skiing in winter, or hiking, rock climbing or mountain biking in spring, summer or fall, there are a variety of websites that will help you. Big Bear Lake is the official website of the area, and offers a travel planner, blogs, videos of the area, and a free vacation guide, as well as a listing of all the companies that offer cabins and luxury homes for rent.

Another official website also offers the same kind of information. They also have live webcams, so you can see the skiers on the mountain slopes, but no blog offerings. (As an aside, this particular site is in frames, which I find very limiting.)

Find sites that contains all the information you need to know on shopping, dining, lodging, history of the area and so on. They should also offer webcams, but no blogs! It’s not in frames, so I like it. The information is easy to find and more important, easy to read.

Cottages are dwellings that are typically found in rural or semi-rural areas. It is built around natural surroundings, and most of the time the surrounding fauna intruding into the actual living space. The term cottages also means a small and cosy place of living, often located near a body of water.

Whichever type of holiday accommodation you decide to go for, keep an open mind and shop around. Sometimes privately owned holiday homes can be cheaper than apartments contained within a complex.

There are slight differences and some distinguishing characters in the cottages that are located at different places. Canadian cottages are distinguished from others, because they are mostly located next to a lake or even the ocean, basically in areas of wilderness. They are mostly rented out to vacationers and are considered popular tourist draws. Used fro skiing, hiking and fishing trips, they are also called ‘cabins’.

If you own the cottage, it is advisable to surround the place with all your favourite things, like books, music, etc., apart from the other necessary things. Also, to increase the comfort level of the cottages and give it a more welcoming and cosy look, ample use of cushions and pillows is the best way. The upholstery, including the curtains must be in bright and sunny colours to lend a happy and lively feel to the cottages.

Keeping the background light or preferably light and then using coloured accessories, like furniture, fruits, flower, dishes, rugs and curtains is a good way of highlighting the accessories in the room. Wood dcor, like wooden planks for flooring and rough hewn timbers lend a rustic feel to cottages and is easy to maintain as well. Keep the accessories inside the cottage to the minimum accessories. Stuffing the cottage with a lot of stuff can make it look stuffed and suffocating.Last but not the least, decorating cottages with memorabilia, and antiques lends it an old world charm and unmakes you want to get back to it more often.

The cozy home - like surrounding, the pulse of nature, the very beat of the shimmering days at the lap of nature and above all the ultimate relaxation that the holiday cottage offers are just enough reason to plan a cottage holiday with your dear and loved ones.

February 24th, 2009 - North African Nights in Morocco

Starry North African nights, belly dancers, fire eaters, sword swallowers and couscous are just some of the fare on offer in Marrakech, Morocco.

Just across the Strait of Gibraltar, a mere stone’s throw from Europe, lies a country where camels plough fields and goats climb trees - a land that Mark Twain described as “a foreign place if ever there was one”. He was talking about Morocco and more than a century later it remains a strange, often unpredictable place. You can’t take anything for granted here.

In a country so unique where do you start? Marrakech is the obvious choice. This ancient trading town in the south of Morocco offers an indelible mix of grand tombs, glittering palaces and courtyard restaurants. At its heart is the pulsating Djemaa el-Fna square. They say it is never empty - there’s always something going on. In the good old days there was more going on than many would like - this is where people had their heads chopped off!

There’s little doubt that tourism is now essential to Morocco’s economy. Now on the budget airline route from Europe, you’d think Marrakech would be one of the first places to succumb to Western tastes. Not so. The central square has always been the place to do business for the local traders and aside from the odd snake charmer nothing has changed.

Early evening entertainment… By early evening the square is filled with an array of entertainment vying for attention including acrobats, sword-swallowers and story-tellers - the background beat of Moroccan drums filling the air.

The food of Morocco is a mouth-watering experience. As the night wears on you can sample earthy Tajine stews, couscous, kebabs and mouth-watering spicy snacks from the Moroccan food vendors that line the square.

A stroll in the Medina The Medina with its fascinating souks, selling almost anything you care to name, is also an exciting place to spend time (and money). There’s an atmosphere of vitality and animation in the long narrow lanes that seem almost impossible to navigate and the area they cover appears vast. In fact it is fairly compact and once you have made a couple of visits finding your way around becomes easier. There are souks selling pottery, Berber jewellery, traditional kaftans, soft leather slippers, spices, herbal remedies for anything that might ail you, perfumes, sweet Moroccan cakes and, of course, rugs and carpets.

The beauty of Marrakech is its proximity to the region’s many natural wonders including the Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert. It’s easy to take an excursion to these and other nearby towns including the more tranquil seaside resort of Agadir and fishing village of Essaouira.
